When the "Hirsch Chumash" was first published, volume by volume between 1867 and 1878, Hirsch's goal was to demonstrate the fundamental truth upon which traditional Judaism is based: that the Written Law as set down in the Bible, and the Oral Law, as recorded in the Mishnah and Gemarah, are a united whole. The first complete English translation of the "Hirsch Chumash," like the German original, was composed over a period of several years -- between 1958 and 1966 -- by one of Hirsch's grandsons, the late Dr. Isaac Levy of London. This edition was published by Judaica Press, and is still available, in seven volumes.

To enhance the value of T'rumath Tzvi for synagogue use, Judaica Press has added the Five Megilloth and the Haftaroth for each of the weekly portions, newly translated by Rabbi A.J. Rosenberg. The Haftaroth include directions for alternative readings for communities following the Ashkenazic, Sephardic, Chabad (Lubavitch), Minhag Prag, Frankfurt-on-the-Main, Nuremberg and Furth, Minhag Eretz Yisrael, Italian and Syrian rituals.
