While the Jewish contribution to film, theater, music, and comedy has been well documented, the Jewish role in the creation of the all-American superhero has not been-until now! From the birth of Krypton in Cleveland to Batman, the Hulk, Spider-Man, the X-Men, and more, Simcha Weinstein chronicles the uncanny story behind the origins of the planet's most famous superheroes. And he does this through an entirely fresh perspective: through the lens of Jewish tradition and spiritual belief. Features full-color reproductions of some of the classic comics discussed. About the Author
Following graduation from England's Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in film history, the assimilated Simcha (né Simon) Weinstein became a film and television scout. Then, seeking to fulfill needs that were not met by MTV or materialism, he set out to meet his great-great-grandparents and learn about his Jewish heritage. Would the skullcap he dropped along the road to assimilation still fit? To his surprise and relief, it did.
Taking a major career turn, not to mention a life-altering paradigm shift, Simcha became a rabbi, a capacity in which he now functions at both Pratt Institute and Long Island College Hospital. He is also founded the downtown Brooklyn Jewish Student Foundation, an educational and cultural center that strives to ignite Jewish pride and commitment through innovative programs. Simcha is a witty, entertaining, and much sought-after public speaker. He is married with two children and lives in Brooklyn, Heights, New York.
